The Pros and Cons of Mobile Alabama!

Having lived in Mobile Alabama my entire life, I have a few thoughts on things you won’t find on the Internet, but you must have lived here for a long time to truly understand. Whether it’s the cost of gas, housing, the weather, traffic, you name it, I’ve seen a thing or two when it comes to living in Mobile.

CHEAP GAS! Well, it was cheap before everything changed in 2020, but compared to the rest of the country, we still have some of the cheapest gas around. When it comes to paying at the pump, you won’t find it much cheaper anywhere. It also doesn’t hurt to be so close to Louisiana and Texas where oil is big business.

SEAFOOD! This is one of the greatest things about living on the Gulf Coast. Pictured above is one of my favorite places for fresh seafood, the Original Oyster House on the causeway. There is another location in Gulf Shores as well. This was the site of my first date with my wife. We’ve been together ever since. Almost 20 years!

There can be a wait, depending on when you arrive, but it will be worth it. Oh, and did I mention the view? it’s beautiful. So many great things about Mobile, but the seafood stands out above the rest!

THE ECONOMY is another Pro of living in Mobile. Pictured above is Austal, one of the largest employers in the area and a leader in development and technology. This is just one of the staples in the economy of Mobile. It’s common to hear this company mentioned in the news on a national level. BIG THINGS are happening in Mobile Alabama!

PROPERTY TAX is CHEAP in Mobile Alabama! Seriously, it is so cheap. If you haven’t discovered this already, you will soon. I have people call me on a regular basis asking about making the move to Mobile because of how much cheaper the property tax is. Like I mention in the video above, you can get a $300K house in Mobile with a yearly property tax bill of about $1200. That’s it. You won’t find it much cheaper anywhere!

HIGHER EDUCATION can be found everywhere in Mobile. Whether you are wanting to study at a major university with over 15,000 students or study in a more cozy environment, you can pick and choose exactly what you want to do in Mobile. Pictured above are just four of the different options available to prospective students in Mobile and the surrounding areas. The University of South Alabama, University of Mobile, Spring Hill College, Bishop State and more are there for you to take your education to the next level.

WEATHER! The weather in Mobile should probably have its own blog post. There are so many things to say about it, but I will try and keep it simple for the sake of time. One word will sum it up for those planning on making the big move: CHANGE!

That is what I think of when I think of the weather in Mobile Alabama. It is always changing and there is no other way to describe it. The great news, however, is we don’t have to deal with the extreme cold so many others have to several months throughout the year. We do, however, have to deal with the heat, sometimes reaching close to 100° in the middle of August. Oh yeah, and how could I forget the potential for hurricanes? That is another thing we have to deal with. But, I’m willing to take the risks in exchange for all of the benefits we have with living on the gulf coast.

MO’BAY beignets is the BEST! From the first bite, I knew I was in LOVE! If you have been to New Orleans for their version of this amazing treat, you have had a pretty good representation, but you have to try Mobile’s version to say you’ve had the BEST! Don’t miss a chance to stop in for something you will never forget. You can thank me later!

MARDI GRAS! Mardi Gras in Mobile Alabama is something you must experience in person. Not New Orleans, nope, that is NOT where it began. Mardi Gras actually began in Mobile Alabama and everyone here is more than happy to let you know!
