The cost of Living in Mobile Alabama is an overview of what it cost to live here daily once you decide to make the big move. I’ve lived in Mobile Alabama my whole life. I’ve experienced all of the price changes through the years and honestly, it’s been small, compared with the rest of the country.

Property and Sales Tax!
Mobile is known for low property tax, like REALLY low, but the sales tax … not so much! We have a sales tax rate in the City of Moblie that is 10%. If you like in the county, it drops down to 9%. So, that extra cent can really add up over time, but overall we still have a very low cost of living.
Food and Restaurants
Eating out in Mobile Alabama has become more common due to most families consisting of both parents working full-time and children involved in multiple activities. With all of the options available, we are beyond grateful for the amount of locally owned restaurants in the greater Mobile and Baldwin County area. On a national scale, the average cost of eating at a fast food restaurant as well as a dine-in restaurant is definitely lower than what is found in more expensive places around the country.
There are multiple grocery store chains that have grown in popularity in Mobile and Baldwin County. Whether it’s a local favorite like Greer’s or a regional favorite like Rouses, you can’t go wrong. Of course, we have our national brands like Winn Dixie, Publix, and the ever-popular Walmart, many locals like to develop relationships with independent butcher shops, fruit stands, and other specialty stores.
